This course is designed to help the individual understand their responsibilities within the workplace and is aimed at persons working with Abrasive Wheels.
It is a legal requirement under The Provision and use of Work Equipment 1998 (PUWER) that all staff who use abrasive wheels receive abrasive wheels training in the safe use of the tools and changing of wheels.
The aim of the course is to provide training to comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulation 1998 (PUWER)
Types of wheels
Many thousands of abrasive wheels are manufactured and sold each year and wheel breakages and personal injuries are rare from wheels breaking from a manufactor defect. The main problem is in the mounting and use of abrasive wheels.
The abrasive wheel for portable tools is a self sharpening cutting and grinding disc, made from abrasive grains bonded with resin and reinforced with fibreglass strands.
This type of abrasive wheel is capable of cutting and grinding metal, masonry and concrete, but to maintain safe use the operator must have knowledge of the risk and the safe use. (Types 27, 41 & 42)
Abrasive wheels used for bench grinding machines is a wheel made from abrasive grits and heat bonded, this type of wheel is not self dressing and require maintenance. (Type 1)
All Abrasive Wheels Courses are run with a maximum of six persons per course.
Course 1
This Course is for persons who have been using Abrasive Wheels for some time and are in need of updating.

This Course is for persons who have not used Abrasive Wheels.
